1. Food Hygiene For Food Handlers

This book details the precautions food workers need to know to enable them to practise good food hygiene. There is now a legal, as well as moral, responsibility on food workers to acquire this knowledge and put it into practice. The book is also useful for those involved in food preparation in the home.

The author, Cathal Kearney, is a Principal Environmental Health Officer currently employed by the Western Health Board. He has worked in the area of food safety for over twenty years and brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the subject.

Many Health Boards and tutors are now using this valuable educational tool integrating the book into the primary course in food hygiene.

2. Environmental Health Standards in Swimming Pools

The Environmental Health Officers' Association (EHOA) policy document on The Environmental Health Standards for Swimming Pools, Spa Pools, Hydrotherapy Pools and Other Multi-user Pools was researched and drafted by a working committee from the North Western Regional Branch.

3. Environmental Health Standards for full-time pre-school services.

This document has been complied by Environmental Health Officers, for full-time pre-school services such as playgroups, creches, nurseries, etc. It provides general guidelines for pre-school service proprietors as defined in Section 49 of The Child Care Act 1991. However it is impossible to cover all eventualities, thus pre-school service owners should contact their local Environmental Health Officers for advice on their premises/services.
