EHOA Licensing Criteria – Primary Course in Food Safety

A trainer licensed by the EHOA must fulfill qualification and experience requirements in the following three areas:

Subject Knowledge

To demonstrate that you have the required subject knowledge you must send copies of your relevant certificates to the EHOA. Any certificate which is greater than 3 years old must also be accompanied with an account of how you have kept your subject knowledge up to date which should also be verified by a suitably qualified person e.g. manager, course tutor.

 

Recognised Qualifications:

  • Distinction in the Management of Food Hygiene NHP
  • Distinction in Food Safety & HACCP - FETAC Level 5 N22795
  • BSc Food Science
  • Higher Certificate in Food Science and Management
  • BSc Environmental Health
  • BSc in Food Science and Health
  • BSc in Food Science and Nutrition
  • Bachelor of Education with specific components in Home Economics
  • Hotel and Catering Management Degree/Diploma
  • Hospitality Management Degree/Diploma

    This list is not exhaustive – other qualifications may be deemed acceptable.

 

Teaching Knowledge

All licensed trainers must have a teaching or training qualification. Again if this qualification is greater than 3 years old you should send an account of how you have kept up to date on best practise. A formal training qualification is required, regardless of teaching experience.

A valid training /teaching qualification could be a:

  • FETAC credit in Food Safety Training Skills at Level 5.
  • FETAC credit in Training at Level 6.
  • One of the following qualifications or its FÁS /EI approved equivalent:-

Foundation Course in Training and Continuing Education –FÁS/NUI Maynooth;
Foundation Course in Essential Trainer Skills –FÁS/NUI Galway;
Certificate in Training and Development –IITD; (75 hours duration)
Certificate in Training and Education FÁS/NUI Galway;
Diploma in Training and Education –NUI Galway;
Higher Diploma in Education;
Degree in Training and Education –NUI Galway;
Degree in Education.

Other qualifications may also be considered – a visit during the delivery of the programme may also be required.

 Experience and Skills

To demonstrate that you have the necessary experience to deliver the EHOA certified programme you must provide details of your employment in the last three years, including information on:

  • Experience of training others
  • Work in the subject field
  • Continuing professional development

Please Note: An interview prior to licensing or a visit during delivery may be required following the assessment of your application by the EHOA Licensing Committee.

Further information may be required to fully assess an application.

Applications are forwarded to the Licensing Committee and a decision made within three weeks from the date of receipt.

Decisions will be communicated to an applicant by the Course Administrator within one week.

The EHOA may review these criteria as appropriate at any time.
