EHOA Yearbook Launch 2009

The EHOA yearbook compiles the interesting (significant, trivial and sometimes just plain weird!) experiences of environmental health officers in the year of production.  Of late, it has also included personal interviews with some of the leading professionals in environmental health related fields.

From the EHOA Yearbook 2007 – 2008, the 25th Year of the EHOA

Message from the Editor:

Welcome to the 2007 – 08 Environmental Health Officers Association yearbook.  During the past few years, the number of jobs for environmental health officers within the HSE have declined. Bearing this in mind, section two of this year’s yearbook is devoted to new opportunities and challenges for environmental health officers and environmental health graduates, which fall outside of the traditional realm.  We report on job prospects available in the recently established Sea Fisheries Protection Authority and the Health Information and Quality Authority.  Previous environmental health graduates describe their unconventional career choices and Martin Devine and Brian McManus report on developments occurring within the HSE and Dublin City Council respectively, which may expand the traditional role of the environmental health officer.
In section three we present some of the more interesting experiences of environmental health officers over the past year.  Who knew that a building could vibrate enough to make its occupants nauseous?  Suffice it to say, we have been busy!
And as usual in section one you will find familiar faces, along with interesting and unique prosecutions that have taken place in the environmental health world over the previous year.
It has been both a pleasure and a challenge to be involved and to edit this yearbook for the first time and thanks must go to all who have helped me in this undertaking.  In particular, my thanks must go to Stephen Ryan, the outgoing editor, the yearbook committee and to Ann Marie Part and Maurice Mulcahy, all of whom have helped me enormously. Finally, I hope that this year’s yearbook will be of interest to all!
